Piero Spadaro paints as a visceral reaction to his surroundings. His paintings are fluid abstractions that hold complexity and meaning beneath their surfaces.

Spadaro ultimately aspires to create engaging and calming abstract paintings with referential forms that chronicle the balance of adding and subtracting, of giving and taking. He uses varying combinations of shellac, denatured alcohol and pigment on canvas. When applying his fluid paint, Spadaro describes the process as ‘arranged chance’, which is part deliberation and part serendipity. He creates by constantly applying and scraping away layers of paint, working with the aesthetic, physical and chemical properties of the medium. Each work results in a hidden, resonating cadence.

Born in San Francisco, Spadaro received his Bachelor of Arts with high honors in General Fine Arts with a minor in Art History from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD. Spadaro currently lives and works in San Francisco.
